Big Box Music Stores in Queens, NY

Got a gig tonight, but your guitar string broke?  Did you drop the mic and break it, and need another one before your rehearsal in 2 hours?  While many folks like the service and attention they might get at an independent music store in Queens, sometimes you just need to get something quick. And you need to be sure that the store will be open and have what you are looking for. You don’t have time to go to two stores, right? This is when its great to know there is a retail giant down the street who stocks a wide variety of musical instruments, equipment, gear, and accessories for just these occasions.

There are two large music stores in Queens who fit the bill.

Sam Ash has a long history with NYC, where it was founded in the 1930s by it’s namesake Sam Ash(kynase). The Forest Hills location of Sam Ash has a wide selection of musical instruments including guitar, bass, drums, as well as orchestral instruments like strings, winds and brass plus all of the standard accessories for these instruments.

This location also has a special section dedicated to DJ and PA equipment, which is not found at all music stores.

Don’t let the name deceive you. Guitar Center is about more than guitars.  Their Long Island City location is located on the second floor of a shopping center on Northern Blvd.  The store is focused on popular instruments like the guitar, bass, and drums. It has a full selection of accessories like picks, and strings too.

The back of the store has a lot of live sound gear including microphones, cables, stands, amplifiers and more.
