We are proud to announce that Jason Sagebiel, was honored by Queens Borough President Melinda Katz. She presented Sagebiel a special citation for service to the community for his work as the founder of Sage Music, the artistic director of LIC Concerts, and for his service as a US Marine from 1999-2007.  The citation reads:

Office of the President, Borough of Queens
City of New York

presented to
Jason Sagebiel
in grateful recognition of

his service in the United States Marine Corps from 1999 through 2007. While serving in Iraq as a Scout-Sniper he was wounded in action, and suffered a traumatic brain injury. For his actions Sergeant Sagebiel was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Action Ribbon, and two Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medals. In returning to civilian life, he embarked on a career as a teacher. As founder of the Sage Music School, as well as the Long Island City Concert Series, Jason Sagebiel has dedicated his life to enhancing the educational and cultural experience for children, families and all residents in the Borough of Queens. Therefore, on behalf of the 2.5 million residents of the Borough of Queens, on the occasion of the 2016 Veterans Day Observance Ceremony at Queens Borough Hall, I proudly present Sergeant Jason Sagebiel with this Citation of Honor.

Sagebiel played the guitar as student Anastia Johnson to sang the National Anthem, and America, the Beautiful during the ceremony. Anastia was proud to be a part of the ceremony because her sister is also a veteran. “I was very happy to give this opportunity to Anastia so that she could show her support to her sister, and because she sounds great and is really singing well.”

Also honored veterans Fireman First Class John McNamee Sr., Specialist 4th Class Leroy Barnes, and Yeoman 2nd Class Arthur Grabiner. Read more about these veterans in this article.  Or see the story on NY1 news.
